Integrated Territorial Management

Territories and Sustainable Development, Adaptation or Change of Paradigm ? Consequences for the Local Institutions

This article develops the following thesis : territories will be essential for tomorrow's governance in the sense that it will answer this two essential necessities : 1) combining policies and actors in an integrated approach ; 2) combining scales of governance from local to global.

This text is a summary of a presentation given at the conference on territorial interviews in Strasbourg directed to local authorities. Sustainable development is not something that can be reflected at the end of the thinking process. It offers the possibility to rethink society, its development and governance. Today's approach of development is restrictive. First because all values of relations systems that are not economic are let apart, and then because the development today encompasses only goods that are dividable when shared. The text proposes paths to transform the territory on a space of invention and creation of new development modalities. Here are suggested advises for the organisation and management of territories.
