Integrated Territorial ManagementTerritorial Integrated Management and Local Development: Some ApproachesThe author exposes the different academic approach to the question of space (geopolitics, neo-classic school, theory of the externality, structuralism) and he demonstrates its lack of relevance for the problem in the Andes. He stresses that the research carried on integrated territorial management in the Andes can open new perspectives.
It is important to reconsider the local space as an appropriate scale for management, this could allow to face the actual problems of degradation of well-being and environment.
This article in the first part proposes a definition of local development, it underlines the necessary characteristics for it. The author in the second part recapitulates exposes the different academic approach to the question of space (geopolitical, neo-classical school, externalities theories and structuralism), he shows the lack of relevance of these theories in front of Andean problems. He demonstrates how the perspectives adopted by researchers who worked on the management of Andean territories before and after the colonisation could be helpful for addressing several issues. He then shows how it could be interesting to learn from the tradition of territorial integrated management : departing from the vertical control of ecological floors in order to enhance alliances' strategies.
