Family Farmers Facing the Challenges of the Twenty-first Century

Published in November 2001

Family farmers, who experience every day the degradation of their conditions of production and existence, and who are conscious that their very survival is at stake, have been committing themselves for almost 10 years in a reflection at international level with partners from NGOs, research organisms, etc.

This document is both a primary warning signal and a step within a process of reflection that must continue, until peasants, and all those conscious that family farming is essential to the balance of our societies, those conscious of the teachings of history, are heard: "a peasantry is easily destroyed; it is impossible to build again" (Louis Malassis).
