Lille and the Nord Pas de Calais Region were a well-adapted place to host a world assembly. The local authorities of the Nord Pas de Calais were actively involved, thus showing their determination to support citizenship at every level. The region's society prepared the Assembly by elaborating its own perspectives. The region's young people were mobilized for reception and interpretation. The Assembly was held in the center of Lille so participants could be in the midst of local life. A marquee was set in the city up to inform the population on the Alliance and on the work of the Assembly. Preparation of the Assembly by the Nord Pas de Calais Region's SocietyThe organization of the Assembly required a local rooting. The core of Allies in the Region set up the Association LilleMonde2001 to take charge of the material organization on site and to facilitate some regional think groups. To that effect, they set up thirteen regional "socioprofessional groups," which, like the Alliance's international socioprofessional networks, each gathered persons from the same social or professional sphere who were willing to work on common perspectives. Each of these thirteen groups drafted a Proposal Paper to be included in a single Paper: the "Regional Proposal Paper for the Nord-Pas-de-Calais/Belgium Region".
