Universal Forum of Cultures

Born out of the need to facilitate dialogue between peoples, cultures and civilisations, the Universal Forum of Cultures is an initiative of the City of Barcelona with the support of the Government of Catalunia, the Government of Spain and in collaboration with UNESCO. It is an opportunity to show the best of each culture to the world, to learn from the others and to contribute to all that can foster solidarity, human rights and sustainable development.

The main actors of the Forum will be members of the civil society and not countries as such. Agencies of the United Nations, NGOs, universities, multinational companies, political and religious organisations, trade-unions etc. will participate in this forum. The Forum will also stimulate the participation of the youth, the scientific and university community, professionals, artists and creative people.

From April 23 to September 27, 2004, a number of events will take place under the banner of the dialogue of cultures (debates, conferences, World Arts Festival, thematic exhibitions on human diversity...). This dialogue will focus on three themes: cultural diversity; peace conditions; sustainable cities.

One can participate right away in different discussions through the Virtual Forum (www.barcelona2004.org).
