Resource persons and their role before and during the Assembly

The great challenge of the Assembly was to bring persons together who for the most part did not know each other and had not been thus far involved in the Alliance. Given its beginnings, the Alliance until then had been mainly present in southern Europe and in Latin America, and in the nonprofit, academic, and scientific spheres. Most of the Alliance Workshop and Socioprofessional Network facilitators, who in 2000 and 2001 coordinated the Proposal Papers, are from these regions and spheres. They could therefore not fill the quotas for participants per world region and per sphere. Nonetheless, their presence was indispensable to the Assembly so they could provide the results of the work that had been accomplished within the Alliance and link it with the participants' input. They were therefore given the status of "resource persons," and as such, they played a major role in the facilitation of the workshops.
