News in brief

Stéphane Hessel : " It is time to create a global social and economic council that offsets the frantic economic competitiveness that characterizes globalization. We will have to entrust it with the task of making people respect the social, economic, and political rights upon which human dignity is based."

Francisco de Roux : " Dignity is what lives in our inner selves; it does not depend on a person's acknowledging it, it belongs to everyone."

Michel Rocard : "There is no peace without sacrifice and we must learn wisdom. Just as there are schools for war, we must foster the opening of schools for peace where people learn the nobility of compromise in negotiation and reconstruction."

Edgar Morin : "We must resist in the name of universal values. It is resistance that makes them meaningful because then freedom becomes a radiant, demanding, and vital reality. But let us not forget that the world still suffers from the aftermath of colonization. The World society is having trouble emerging. We must foster this common destiny that I call the World Homeland."
