Hello,
As I see other people introduce themselves, I suppose I should do the same.
My name is Elisabete Figueiredo, I was born in Lisbon and I live in Aver,
in Portugal.
I am 34 years old, I am married. No children yet. I am a Sociologist, and I
am also lecturer and researcher at the Environment and Planning Department
at the University of Aveiro - Portugal.
My research studies are focused on rural sociology and environmental
sociology and also rural development. I am writing my Ph.D. thesis now
about the Social Construction of the Rural Environment. The main purpose of
my thesis is that the rural marginal areas, which we may characterize as
pre-modern, are nowadays increasingly demanded and consumed as natural
spaces, mostly by urban residents or non-rural. These areas are now
socially and at the institutional level identified as post-modern in the
context of the new development paradigms in which the environment has a
relevant role.
My interest in the eur-rur forum ["European Rural World and
Sustainability"] is related to the discussion of these subjects. In the
other hand, I strongly believe that the participation of the rural
inhabitants in rural development processes is an essential key to its
success. However, the majority of rural inhabitants are not aware or
prepared to participate. In this context, it is very important that the
universities, local and regional associations, etc. could guide them or
help them discovering their local capabilities and strengths. As a person
interested in rural areas and in their development processes, I hope we all
can contribute to make a better rural world.

Bonjour,
Comme je vois d'autres gens se presenter, je suppose que je dois faire de
meme. Mon nom est Elisabete Figueiredo, je suis nee a Lisbonne et je vis a
Aver, au Portugal.
J'ai 34 ans, je suis mariee. Aucuns enfants cependant. Je suis Sociologue,
et je suis aussi conferencier et chercheur au Departement d'Environnement
et Planification a l'Universite d'Aveiro - Portugal.
Mes recherches sont axees sur sociologie rurale et sociologie de
l'environnement et aussi developpement rural. J'ecris mon Doctorat. Mon
sujet de these est maintenant la Construction Sociale de l'Environnement
Rural. Le but principal de ma these est que les domaines marginaux ruraux
que nous pouvons caracteriser comme pre-moderne, sont de plus en plus
prises de nos jours et utilises comme espaces naturels, principalement par
les residents urbains ou non-rural. Ces domaines sont maintenant
socialement et au niveau institutionnel identifie comme postmoderne dans le
contexte des nouveaux paradigmes du developpement ou l'environnement a un
role pertinent.
Mon interet dans le forum de l'eur-rur [" Monde Rural europeen et
Durabilite"] est en rapport avec la discussion de ces sujets. D'autre part,
je crois fortement que la participation des habitants ruraux dans les
processus du developpement ruraux est une clef essentielle a son succes.
Cependant, la majorite d'habitants ruraux n'est pas consciente ou pas
prepare a participer. Dans ce contexte, c'est tres important que les
universites, associations locales et regionales, etc., les guide ou les
aider adecouvrir leurs capacites locales et points forts. Entant que
personne interessee par les zones rurales et par leurs processus du
developpement, j'espere que nous tous pouvons contribuer pour faire un
monde rural meilleur.
