Je voudrais partager avec vous des reflexions que nous essayons de mener
en synergie avec d'autres depuis un certain nombre de temps… Ces reflexions
peuvent aussi etre des pistes de solutions aux questions que nous nous
posons tous, et c'est aussi pour moi l'interet de ce forum d' echange. Avec
le passage a l'an 2000 beaucoup d'initiative ont ete prise par plusieurs
acteurs de nos societes. Mais nous pouvons faire le constat que "
l'optimisme de depart s'est un peu refroidi, et le monde ne semble pas
aussi paisible qu'avant : au Moyen orient, la confrontation entre Juifs et
Palestiniens s'est accrue, remettant en question l' equilibre deja fragile
dans cette partie du monde. En Afrique, les conflits dans les grands Lacs,
en Afrique centrale, en Algerie, en Sierra Leone, au Soudan et ailleurs,
continuent d'etre un casse tete pour la communaute internationale. En
Europe, la montee des mouvements d' exclusion, quel qu'en soient les noms,
defie la raison et le bon sens et nous rappellent a tous que l' homme est
un etre de sentiments, le plus souvent oublieux de l' histoire, et
incapable de relire son passe pour en tirer une sagesse pour la vies. Dans
le continent Americain, la persistance des guerillas qu'on disait eteintes
remet en question les volontes affichees par tous d'en finir avec les
conflits, les violences et les guerres. En Asie, les scandales financiers
rivalisent avec l'influence de plus en plus incontrolee des sectes nuisant
a la vie de leurs adeptes. La mondialisation se fait plus pressant, plus
menacante pour ceux qui n'en supportent pas l'arrogance et le mepris des
faibles, et ses tentacules s'elargissent sans consideration jusqu'aux coins
recules de notre planete, violant l'intimite des personnes, menacant leur
liberte et suscitant de nombreuses formes de violences.
Plus que jamais, notre monde a besoin de paix et d'harmonie entre les
institutions et les hommes. La hache ou la machine de guerre, que les
hommes deterrent si facilement aides en cela par des marchands d'armes,
pour regler les conflits s'averent incapables de procurer a l' humanite un
sentiment de paix. Elles ne cessent de multiplier le nombre de nos " morts
inutiles " et d'accroitre le flots de malheureux sans abri et sans logis,
dont le nombre est en croissance. Toute fois, la recherche de la paix et sa
consolidation ne doivent plus etre laissees aux seuls politiciens ni a des
Nations particulieres, parce que possedant le pouvoir d' armement le plus
dissuasif du monde. Dans l' ambiguite des attitudes des Nations et des
politiques, les religions et les croyants ne peuvent rester indifferents.
Oui les religions ont une influence considerable au sein des societes et
elles peuvent promouvoir une prise de conscience forte chez les croyants
afin que chacun puisse prendre au serieux les defis de ce monde. Les
religions ont a proposer les voies et moyens pour sortir des crises, pour
retablir la confiance entre les hommes creees a l'image d'un seul et meme
Dieu, qui veut rassembler en son Fils, la multitude de ceux qui creent leur
propre malheur, lorsqu'ils pensent construire tout seul leur avenir, en se
fondant sur des sentiments et des prejuges nefastes et nuisibles a tous.
Nous vivons dans un monde de plus en plus interdependant, et pluriel. Le
defi majeur de ce monde est la paix. Nous devons comprendre que " la paix
ne signifie pas tranquillite et qu'il n'y a ni paix, ni tranquillite, la ou
ceux qui percoivent quelques chose refusent (en se taisant) d' eclairer ou
n' eclairent pas assez les citoyens sur les causes des conflits de
l'intolerance " qui engendrent frustrations et deceptions et conduisent aux
guerres et atrocites de toutes sortes.

fragile balances in this part of the world. In Africa, the conflicts in the
Great Lakes, in central Africa, some, in Algeria, in Sierra Leone, in Sudan
and elsewhere, continue to be a headache for the international community.
In Europe, the rise of discriminatory movements, whatever the names they
bear, challenge reason and common sense and remind us all that the human
being is a being of feelings, most often forgetful of history, and
incapable to reread his or her past in order to draw out some wisdom for
life. In the American continents, the persistence of guerrilla warfare that
one had said was extinct puts back into question the wishes demonstrated by
all to have done with these wars. In Asia, the financial scandals vie more
and more with the
uncontrolled onfluence of some sects to damage the lives of their adepts.
Globalalization is ever more pressing, more threatening for those that
will not support the arrogance and the contempt shown to the weak. Its
tentacles extend without any consideration to the remote corners of our
planet, violating people's intimacy, menacing their liberty and causing
numerous forms of violence.
More than ever, our world is in need of peace and of harmony between its
institutions and its peoples. The machete or the war-machine, that people
unearth so easily, helped by the arms-traders, in order to settle
conflicts, prove to be incapable of procuring for humanity a feeling of
peace. They don't stop the multiplying of the number of those who have died
uselessly but increase the streams of the wretched, of those without
shelter and without lodgings, whose number is growing. Nevertheless,
peace-research and its funding must not be left only to the politicians nor
to particular nations, because they possess the power and the most
dissuasive armaments. Faced with the ambiguďties of the attitudes of the
nations and of the politicians, the religions and the believers cannot
remain indifferent.
Yet the religions have a considerable influence at the heart of human
societies and they can promote a strong awareness among the believers so
that each can take the challenges of the world seriously. The religions
have to propose the ways and means for us to come out of the crises, to
re-establish the confidence between human beings created to the image of
One Only and Same God, who wants to gather in His Son, the multitude of
those who create their own misfortune, when they think that they can
construct all alone their future, while basing it one feelings and
prejudices which are harmful to all.
We live more and more in an interdependent and plural world. The major
challenge of this world is peace. We must understand that peace doesn't
mean tranquillity and that there is no peace nor tranquillity, where those
who do discern something then stay quiet and refuse to enlighten or
sufficiently enlighten their citizens about the reasons for conflicts or
intolerance that "generate frustrations and disappointments and incite
people to wars and atrocities of all sorts".
