*TENTATIVE DECLARATION OF MANKIND DUTIES TOWARDS THE EARTH.

PREAMBLE : We, signatories of this declaration on mankind duties towards
the Earth, from all parts of the world, have assembled here in…….
today……..in the year 2001, for the purpose of defining duties of all humans
towards the Eath. The ultimate aim of this declaration is to create
awareness and foster sound and healthy understanding of mankind's
relationships to the Earth, on which principles can be constructed to
formulate policies and strategies to preserve and enhance the Earth
livability and capability to sustain mankind.
THE DECLARATION TEXT :
The Earth is the irreplacable abode of mankind in the past, present and
future ; there exists no other planet livable as the Earth, which can
possibly sustain mankind life and existence.
We acknowledge that the Earth should be considered the virtual mother of
mankind. For, since the beginning, the Earth has alaways been kind,
generous and compassionate to humans, animals and plants providing all
living species, not only with the esssential means of subsistence but also
with the necessary potentials to grow, expand and multiply into unlimited
varieties ; each species in accord with its own laws and phenomena.
Considering the earth as the Mankind Mother, we accept that she has the
characteristics of a living creature, with a face, a bosom, body and feet
(the north and south poles). It is assumed that this notion will contribute
to integrating the earth into humans'conscience as a living being having
rights to be respected by mankind.
We acknowledge that the Earth in its present state is wounded ; she is
suffering fever, the syndrome of which are observed in overheating of the
atmosphere, signs of polar ice about to melt, floods and other abnormal
phenoma that may be discovered in the future.
We acknowledge that the earth natural resources have been exploited without
sufficient respect of needs of mankind future generations. Human greed,
ignorance and indifference are the probable reasons for overexploitation.
Presently the salient problems of the Mother Earth are : A. distortion of
the balance between the earth, humans and the biosphere ; B. Pollution that
has deformed the earth's face and bosom ;
C. Weapons of mass destruction that may eradicate life and livability,
turning everything to ashes ; D. poverty and malnutrition of a large
portion of humans making them poorly able to understand and cooperate in
making efforts to help the earth ; and E. other relevant problems.
Since the problems of item VII are compex ones, research must be conducted
systematically in order to determine the forces and factors that have been
operating in background of these problems, with a view of incorporating the
research results into policies, srategies and actions concerning the earth.
Problems of the earth are global, so are the remedies. Humans are
responsible for both, the problems and the remedies as well.
Since humans are cultural beings who belong to certain religions and/or
traditions, constructive conceptions relevant to the earth liveability and
well-being found in their heritage, should be discovered, defined and
presented to the young generation within the educational curricula to
improve their awareness and understanding of the state-of- the art of the
earth. The conceptions themselves can be linked to the visions that form
the basis on which policies and strategies to help the earth are set.
Conceptions derived on standards of living, quality of life and energy
consumption must be reassessed and evaluated in such a way as to remove
from their contents and implications tendencies to encourage
overcomsumption, unlimited growth of economy, and unrestrained indulgence
in using energies.
We acknowledge the need to preserve and enhance the earth liveability
through the construction of new concepts and paradigms derived from the
earth's natural laws of recycling and sustainability.
Since we are sons and daughters of the earth, we are also citizens of the
world : there must be no contradictions.
Readers of this declaration are urged to understand properly and set their
behaviours and interactions with the earth in harmony with its contents,
spirits and implications to their daily lives and personal and social
affairs and interests.
This declaration, all its item included, remains tentative until the final
draft is written and consensus of all parties concerned is attained.

PROPOSITION DE DECLARATION DES DEVOIRS DE L'HUMANITE ENVERS LA TERRE.
Preambule : Nous, signataires de cette declaration sur les devoirs de
l'humanite envers la Terre, venant de toutes les parties du monde, nous
sommes assembles ici a ……..aujourd'hui en 2001, dans le but de definir les
devoirs de tous les etres humains envers la Terre. L'objectif fondamental
de cette declaration est de creer une prise de conscience et de favoriser
une comprehension sensee et saine des relations de l'humanite avec la
Terre, des principes sur lesquels on peut elaborer des lignes de conduite
et des strategies pour preserver et ameliorer la Terre comme milieu de vie
et support de l'humanite.
Texte de la declaration. La Terre est la demeure irremplacable de
l'humanite passee, presente et future ; il n'y a pas d'autre planete que la
Terre, capable de maintenir la vie et l'existence de l'humanite.
Nous reconnaissons la Terre comme la mere veritable de toute l'humanite. En
effet, depuis le commencement, la Terre a toujours ete bonne genereuse et
compatissante pour les etres humains, les animaux et les plantes,
fournissant a toutes les especes, non seulement les moyens essentiels de
subsistance mais aussi le potentiel necessaire pour croitre, s'etendre et
se multiplier en varietes innombrables ; chaque espece selon ses propres
lois et particularites.
Considerant la Terre comme la Mere de l'Humanite, nous admettons qu'elle a
les caracteres d'une creature vivante, avec un visage, un cœur , un corps
et des pieds (les poles Nord et Sud). On presume que cette notion
contribuera a l'assimilation de la Terre dans la conscience humaine avec un
etre vivant ayant des droits que l'humanite doit respecter.
Nous admettons que la Terre dans sa situation actuelle est blessee ; elle
est fievreuse, on peut en voir les symptomes dans le rechauffement de
l'atmosphere, les indices de la fonte prochaine de la glace polaire, les
inondations et autres phenomenes anormaux qui peuvent surgir dans l'avenir.
Nous admettons que les ressources naturelles de la Terre ont ete exploitees
sans tenir suffisamment compte des besoins des prochaines generations.
L'appat du gain, l'ignorance et l'indifference sont les raisons probables
de l'exploitation intensive des ressources.
Actuellement, les difficultes saillantes de la Terre Mere sont : A.
alteration de l'equilibre entre la Terre, les hommes et la biosphere ; B.
pollution qui a deforme le visage et le sein de la Terre ; C. armes de
destruction en masse qui peuvent aneantir la vie et la rendre impossible en
reduisant tout en cendres ; D pauvrete et malnutrition d'une grande partie
des etres humains les rendant peu capables de comprendre les efforts
necessaires en faveur de la Terre et d'y cooperer ; E. autres questions du
meme ordre.
Etant donne la complexite des questions du § VI, il faut rechercher
systematiquement quels elements et quelles forces sont a l'œuvre a
l'origine de ces difficultes, en ayant en vue l'utilisation de cette
recherche pour etablir des lignes de conduite, strategies et actions
concernant la Terre.
Les difficultes de la Terre sont globales, de meme que les remedes. Les
hommes sont responsables des deux, aussi bien des problemes que des remedes.
Puisque les hommes sont des etre de culture, qui appartiennent a certaines
religions et/ou traditions, des concepts constructifs concernant la Terre
comme milieu de vie et venant de leurs traditions, devraient etre
decouverts, definis et presentes aux jeunes generations au cours de leur
education pour ameliorer leur prise de conscience et comprehension de la
situation de la Terre. Les concepts eux-memes peuvent avoir un lien avec
les visions qui forment la base sur laquelle sont construites les lignes de
conduite et les strategies etablies pour aider la Terre.
Les concepts en rapport avec le niveau de vie, la qualite de la vie et la
consommation de l'energie doivent etre reevalues et analyses de maniere a
les debarrasser des tendances a encourager la surconsommation, la
croissance illimitee de l'economie, et la tendance a l'utilisation effrenee
des energies.
Nous affirmons la necessite de preserver et developper la Terre comme
milieu de vie en elaborant de nouveaux concepts et paradigmes issus des
lois naturelles de recyclage et durabilite de la Terre.
Puisque nous sommes fils et filles de la Terre, nous sommes aussi citoyens
du monde, ces deux qualites ne doivent pas entrer en contradiction.
Les lecteurs de cette declaration devraient l'assimiler convenablement et
adapter leur comportement et actions envers la Terre a son contenu , son
esprit et ses implication dans leur vie quotidienne et leurs engagements
sociaux et personnels.
Cette declaration, y compris tous les sujets qu'elle aborde reste une
ebauche jusqu'a ce que la version definitive soit redigee et que l'accord
de toutes les parties concernees soit obtenu.
