PERSONAL INFORMATION
Gerardo Gonzalez, Chilean/Christian (Catholic). I obtained in 1969 a doctorate
from the University of Paris (after studies in social psychology, methodology
of social research and demography). I worked with the UN as social demographer
in the field of population and development (in Vietnam and Nepal 1985-1990).
Since I retired from the UN, I work mainly as a free lance international
consultant and university post-degree professor. Since 1995 I have been
actively involved in inter-religious dialogue for peace.
In 1995 I helped Lama Gangchen, a Tibetan healer, to write his proposal for a
United Nations Spiritual Forum for World Peace and organized the first
presentation of this initiative at the Headquarters of the UN Economic
Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. A year later, I established
the Santiago Spiritual Forum for Peace, a local macro-ecumenical group
inspired in the UN Spiritual Forum proposal, being since its coordinator. Its
main objective is to provide to its members a neutral space for getting
acquainted, dialoguing and planning joint activities for peace, with full
respect of their spiritual orientations. In October 1997 I started working
on voluntary basis as International Adviser to the Lama Ganchen World Peace
Foundation, leading the preparation of the project "Towards the creation of
the United Nations Spiritual Forum for World Peace". Since the start of this
project in April 1998, I have carried out in my capacity of project director
several activities. One of them was attending the seminar on "Responsibilities
of religions towards Humanity", where I had the opportunity to present that
initiative.

J’ai fait en 1969 un doctorat à l’Université de Paris (apres etudes de
troisieme cycle en psychologie sociale, methodologie de recherche sociale, et
demographie). J’ai travaille aux Nations Unies comme demographe social dans le
domaine des populations et du developpement (au Viet Nam et au Népal
1985-1990). Depuis ma retraite de l’ONU, j’ai travaille comme consultant
international independant et comme professeur en universite. Depuis 1995 j’ai
pris des engagements dans le dialogue inter-religieux pour la paix.
En 1995 j’ai aide Lama Gangchen, guerisseur tibetain, a ecrire sa proposition
d’un Forum Spirituel des Nations Unies pour la paix du monde et organise la
première présentation de cette initiative à l’etat major de la Commission
Economique des Nations Unies pour l’Amerique Latine et les Caraibes. Un an
apres, j’ai organise le Forum Spirituel de Santiago pour la Paix, un groupe
macro ecumenique local, devenant ensuite son coordinateur dans l’esprit de la
proposition du Forum Spirituel des Nations Unies. Son objectif principal est
de fournir a ses membres un espace neutre pour se rencontrer, dialoguer et
organiser des activites en commun pour la paix, dans un respect total de leurs
orientations spirituelles.
En octobre 1997, j’ai commence a travailler benevolement comme conseiller
international de la Fondation pour la paix du Monde de Lama Gangchen,
dirigeant la preparation du projet : Preparation de la creation du Forum
spirituel des Nations Unies pour la Paix du Monde . Depuis le debut de ce
projet en avril 1998, j’ai mene plusieurs taches en tant que directeur de
projet. L’une d’entre elles a consiste a assister au seminaire sur la
Responsabilite des Religions a l’egard de l’Humanite ou j’ai pu presenter
cette initiative.
