Environmental Education

by Christian Souchon - Yolanda Ziaka -

6 proposals for action by citizens

Degradation of the biosphere is accelerating. The mission of environmental education can no longer be limited to raising consciousness; henceforth it must be expressed through socially responsible action. This is the framework in which six directions have been identified. These are to: seek to strengthen citizens' sense of critical appraisal to ensure a better democratic control over political orientations; develop a global and critical approach in education as a whole; encourage the development of specific training for teachers and educators in view of implementing civic education based on appropriate educational research; place the emphasis on the training of certain socioprofessional groups; design environmental education for the general public; and make use of original experiences from civil society.
